The Chess Club of Virginia Tech's rated Quick Chess ladder is open to all USCF members.

Initial placement in the ladder:

  • Players will be added to the ladder in USCF Quick chess rating order.
  • Rated players are added one rung below the next highest rated player.
  • Unrated players are added at the bottom of the ladder.

Challenges:

  • Players are able to challenge anyone on the ladder.
  • If the players do not have a preferred opponent, the TD will make pairings with priority given to pairing like-rated players and not pairing people who have recently played one another.

The Matches:

  • All games will be USCF Quick Chess rated.
  • Games will be played during club meetings under supervision of a USCF certified Tournament Director (TD).
  • Colors will be chosen randomly. If multiple games are played, colors will alternate.
  • Time controls for each game will be G/10.
  • Other Quick Chess time controls are acceptable if agreed upon by both players in advance of the game. Quick chess ranges from G/10 to G/29, inclusive.
  • Players can play as many games as they choose during regular meeting hours as long as the TD is present. To remain "active" on the ladder, one game every two weeks is expected (see "Inactive Players" below).

Results:

  • All game results must be reported to the TD.
  • Ladder changes will be made after each match night.
  • Each result is the total score between the same two players.  (So players A and B can play 5 games and that will count as 1 win for player A if she wins 4 out of 5 games. If player B was higher ranked, A will move up one rung).
  • If the player higher on the ladder wins or draws, no ladder changes occur.
  • If the lower rated player wins, that player moves up one rung.

Rating fee:

  • $10 will cover all games for both Fall and Spring semesters

Inactive Players:

  • A player who passes two weeks in which matches are held, without playing, will be dropped one rung.

Rules:

  • These rules may be changed or amended by the organizers at any time outside of a match.
