The CCVT team placed 1st in the 2012 Virginia State Collegiate Championship on March 17th, when they traveled to the tournament held in McLean. The team members who played included Nathan Ostapovicz, Sean Clendening, Derek O'Dell, Kevin Barr, and Tyler Hengy all led by our coach Justin Burgess. Nathan placed 4th overall, Derek placed 5th, and Sean won the top U1400. The VT team had an overall score of 10 which was the same as George Mason, but VT won 1st place on tie-breakers by 1 point.


Introduction

The CCVT is a registered student organization at Virginia Tech. We are dedicated to providing a friendly environment for the playing and learning of chess at Virginia Tech. The CCVT also participates competitively -- in regional competitions, on the Internet, and in our own tournaments.

Our club provides the use of boards, sets, and chess clocks free of fees or dues to all students, faculty, and members of the Blacksburg and Virginia Tech community.

Meetings start 1/24, Tuesdays 6:30 - 9:30

Our weekly meetings will begin next Tuesday, Jan. 24th from 6:30 - 9:30. All are welcome to attend our meetings, no membership fees or dues. Feel free to stop by anytime between 6:30 and 9:30. See you Tuesday!

Meetings on Tuesdays from 6:30-9:30 PM

The CCVT will be meeting every Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 PM on the 3rd floor of the G.B. Johnston Student Center on campus next to Burruss. You are welcome to come and leave at anytime between 6:30 and 9:30. We will have free refreshments at our first meeting on August 30th. All skill levels of players are welcome to join, free lessons are provided upon request. Hopefully see you Tuesday!
